FIAT Grande Panda EV joins the sub-£21k EV market

  • The FIAT Grande Panda has now arrived in Europe as yet another low-price EV from the Stellantis group, after pricing for the Grande Panda was confirmed.
  • The EV variant of the Grande Panda will start from £20,995 / €24,990, joining an increasingly competitive market of low-price, no-compromise electric cars.
  • In the UK specifically, the Grande Panda EV will become the third cheapest four-door electric car in the country: Coming after the £14,995 Dacia Spring, and Stellantis’ own £15,995 Leapmotor T03.

Stellantis brings a low-price EV from FIAT to market

While the fully-electric Grande Panda variant will start at £20,995 / €24,990, it hasn’t quite managed to achieve price parity with the hybrid variant, which starts at £18,975 / €18,900 – but it gets pretty close. The Grande Panda exists on the same Stellantis platform as other affordable EVs from the group, such as the Vauxhall Frontera Electric and Citroen e-C3. It significantly undercuts the price of FIAT’s previous EV, the 500e, which has a starting price of £24,995 in comparison.

In what is becoming a growing trend in the EV design world, with EVs such as the new Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Buzz, the Grande Panda takes influence from the original 1980s Fiat Panda, along with the LED headlights that FIAT say reference ‘famous 80s video games’.

In electric form, the Grande Panda packs a 44kWh battery pack, offering a rated combined range of 199 miles. A 113 horsepower electric motor delivers power to the front wheels, delivering 0-62mph in 11 seconds. It also exists as the first EV on the market to have an integrated charging cable built into the front grille – helping free up space in the boot where the spare charging cable would normally lie, particularly in a small car like this where boot space is at a premium.

The Grande Panda is yet another sign that the EV industry is heading in the right direction, catering for those who want an affordable car that can do it all while costing little to run. These are attributes that made the original 1980s Fiat Panda such a sales success. Will FIAT be able to repeat that with the new Grande Panda?
