Electric carmaker Polestar announces partnership with double Olympic gold medallist Nicola Adams

Polestar, the Swedish performance electric car brand, has announced its partnership with former Olympic gold medallist boxer, and equal rights champion, Nicola Adams.

Adams first experienced Polestar at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July during a passenger ride up the famous hill climb in an experimental version of the 100 percent electric Polestar 2.

Adams has now joined the Polestar family and keen to make the switch to an electric vehicle (EV). She has now taken delivery of a Polestar 2 crossover Long range Dual motor.

The 100 percent electric performance fastback is capable of travelling up to 299 miles (481km) on a single charge and accelerates from 0-60mph (0-97kph) in just 4.5 seconds.

The partnership cements Polestar’s focus on performance while bringing sustainable personal mobility to a new audience via Adams’ following.

Now retired from professional boxing, Adams recently launched her own documentary film, Lioness, which tracks her inspirational journey to becoming the first female Olympic boxing champion.

A common theme in the film is the sexism she faced as a young female athlete. The partnership between Polestar and Adams will foster further opportunities to stand together for a more sustainable, equitable and innovative future.

Nicola Adams, Olympic gold medallist boxer, said: “I am passionate about making sustainable choices and doing my bit to help the environment and tackle climate change, starting with what I’m driving.

“Being 100 percent electric, the Polestar 2 ticks that box perfectly. It also doesn’t hurt that the design is sleek, it features the latest tech such as Google Assistant, and it’s the perfect size for myself, Ella and our dog. I am so excited about this partnership, hopefully, it will inspire more people to go electric”.

As the government announces all new houses will, by law, have electric car charging points, the increased interest in electric vehicles and the shift in attitude from both businesses and consumers is now more prevalent than ever.

By partnering with influential, inspirational and determined individuals such as Nicola Adams, Polestar will broaden its reach and create better opportunities to communicate its support for important issues such as exceptional human achievement and the inextricable relationship between sustainability and equality.
