Welcome to Top Women in EV week! As the Content Creative at Green.TV Media, the organisation behind Top Women in EV, I’m pleased to share my personal journey into the world of electric vehicles, especially during this exciting time in my life – I’m about to become a mum.
While I’ve been passionate about EVs for years, it was actually pregnancy that finally pushed me to take the plunge. I will admit, more affordable EV prices played a huge role, but becoming a mother-to-be brought a new perspective and urgency to my decision.
Here’s why pregnancy accelerated my shift to electric:
Safety first
My previous car, a trusty but aging Honda CRV, simply couldn’t compete with the advanced safety features of a modern EV. Features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and parking sensors in my new Hyundai Kona give me peace of mind knowing I’m doing everything I can to protect my precious cargo. Plus, the solid build and stability of a newer car provide an added layer of confidence.
Clean air for little lungs

Air pollution is undoubtedly a serious health hazard, and with a baby on the way, I wanted to minimise their exposure to harmful diesel fumes and pollutants. Switching to an EV felt like a tangible way to create a healthier environment for my child, and all the other little lungs out there. (Did you know that air pollution contributes to millions of premature deaths globally each year?)
Effortless charging
Let’s face it, juggling a baby and a trip to the petrol station sounds like a recipe for stress. Home charging with an EV is incredibly convenient, especially with a little one in tow.
Aligning values with action
Working in the EV industry, I’ve always advocated for sustainable transportation. Becoming an EV owner allowed me to truly practice what I preach and make a choice that reflects my commitment to the planet and my child’s future.
Unexpected perks
Okay, this one might sound a bit frivolous, but the ability to pre-heat my car on frosty mornings using an app is a game-changer! No more shivering while scraping ice off the windshield – a small luxury that makes a big difference when you’re expecting.

Beyond the practicalities
My EV has brought unexpected benefits beyond the practical. As someone who experienced round ligament pain during pregnancy, I found that driving an automatic significantly reduced discomfort compared to changing gears in a manual car. The smooth, one-pedal driving experience an EV offers has been a real blessing!
A growing trend?
I’m curious to hear from other women in the EV community. What motivated you to make the switch? Was it price, environmental concerns, safety, the arrival of a new family member, or something else entirely? Share your stories below!
