- Following a survey conducted last month, which interviewed more than 3,700 BEV drivers in the UK, Zapmap has revealed its annual satisfaction ratings across the numerous ultra-rapid charging networks available in the country.
- Respondents to the survey were asked to score satisfaction in the areas of reliability, ease of use, customer support, value for money, and available payment options.
- The awards have been broken down into two categories: ‘Large’ networks, with over 300 chargepoints nationwide, and ‘Medium’ networks, which have between 100 and 300 chargepoints.
Which charging networks are UK EV drivers most satisfied with?
In the Large category, Tesla’s Supercharger network came out in first place, with an overall rating of 4.7/5, scoring particularly well when it came to cost – an area where the Supercharger network tends to significantly undercut the ultra-rapid competition. Tesla owners on the Supercharger network get a more seamless charging connection, and a reduced price, so Zapmap only considered responses from non-Tesla drivers – but it still came out tops despite this, highlighting its popularity. Coming in second and third place were MFG EV Power and Osprey Charging, with overall scores of 3.8/5 and 3.6/5 respectively. Both MFG and Osprey have made several big moves to increase the scale of their respective networks.
When it came to Medium networks, Fastned took first place, with an overall score of 4.1/5. Fastned’s UK network is set to grow significantly over the coming years, thanks to partnerships with organisations such as Places for London. Coming in second place here was Ionity, with a score of 3.5/5, followed by Applegreen Electric in third place, with a score of 3.2/5.
Zapmap also announced a separate award for an ‘Up and coming’ network, which was awarded to Sainsbury’s Smart Charge network. Despite only launching at the start of the year, it’s already grown to include over 500 ultra-rapid EV charging bays at Sainsbury’s supermarket locations across the UK. It’s hoping to expand this number to at least 750, before the end of 2024.
Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-founder & COO at Zapmap, commented:
“This year has seen another huge increase in charging provision across the country, particularly for the ultra-rapid (150kW+) chargers, and charging hubs; and it is fantastic to be able to highlight and celebrate the UK’s best EV charging networks, as chosen by EV drivers.
A record 17 networks are on the rankings table, and it is clear that reliability in the broadest sense remains key with EV drivers showing appreciation for networks rolling out consistent, reliable charging hubs which provide convenience and charging confidence. Whilst excellent payment options, customer support and ease of use are all highly valued, this year value for money, is an increasingly important consideration.
Many congratulations to all the networks, particularly Tesla and Fastned topping the rankings in their respective categories, and we look forward to the continued growth of a reliable, cost effective charging network to support the ever-growing number of EV drivers.”
