- The flagship electric model from Volkswagen has been on sale for a number of months now, but a sportier GTX variant is going on sale for the UK market this week.
- Starting on 1 August, the ID.7 and longer ID.7 tourer will be available in GTX form, with starting prices of £61,890 and £62,670 respectively.
- Whilst that represents around a £10,000 hike over the standard ID.7 Pro Match, there’s an extensive list of changes both on and under the skin.
Volkswagen ID.7 GTX hits the order books
Whilst the GTX variants don’t see an increase on the current ID.7’s 86kWh battery capacity, extra performance comes courtesy of a new front motor, in addition to the standard rear motor. This ups power to 335bhp, from 282bhp on the standard model. This also makes it the first ID.7 model to have an all-wheel-drive setup, which will be sure to help it deliver that extra power onto the road. 0-62mph times for the ID.7 GTX and ID.7 GTX Tourer will be 5.4 seconds and 5.5 seconds, respectively.
The list of standard equipment is impressive too, including heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, LED matrix headlights, and a Harman Kardon sound system, just to name a few. The exterior and interior are also adorned with GTX badging and styling tweaks, to make it stand out against other ID.7 models on the road.
Particularly for the UK, and other countries driving on the left, with Tesla discontinuing right-hand-drive versions of its Model S saloon, the ID.7 GTX will be a particularly attractive proposition for those who want the performance, technology and space of a Model S, but in a more convenient right-hand-drive form.
Volkswagen has been in the habit of GTXing its entire electric range recently, from the ID.3 GTX hot hatch, even to more niche models like the ID. Buzz GTX sports van.
