Vauxhall defends its title as the UK’s top-selling electric van manufacturer
Vauxhall clinched the title of the UK’s leading electric van manufacturer for the third consecutive year, according to the latest data released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The achievement saw Vauxhall surpassing its closest competitor by more than double, boasting sales of 6,402 electric vans.
Vauxhall commanded a substantial 29.8% share of the electric light commercial vehicle (e-LCV) market in the UK last year. The Vivaro Electric, a flagship in Vauxhall’s electric fleet, not only led sales throughout 2023 but also emerged as the top-selling electric van in December.
The Vivaro’s stellar performance in the e-LCV market was mirrored in the broader context of the UK van market. Ranking second overall, the Vivaro secured its position with a robust sales figure of 20,477 units in 2023.

Vauxhall offers fully electric variants across its entire range of light commercial vehicles (LCVs). In 2023, nearly one-fifth (18.5%) of Vauxhall’s total van sales were comprised of these electric models, reflecting a tangible shift toward sustainable transport solutions.
The success narrative extends beyond Vauxhall, encompassing sister brands under the Stellantis Pro One LCV lineup. That includes Peugeot, Citroën, and Fiat. Together, these brands collectively commanded a significant 27.23% share of the UK LCV market in 2023, reflecting a noteworthy surge from the previous year.
Ellesmere Port emerged as the UK’s first EV-only volume manufacturing plant in 2023. The facility plays a pivotal role in producing the Stellantis small electric van range, including the Vauxhall Combo Electric. Simultaneously, the Luton factory continues its role in manufacturing the Vauxhall Vivaro and associated models.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Vauxhall, commented:
“It’s a fantastic achievement to be the UK’s best-selling e-LCV manufacturer for the third year running, demonstrating our long-standing commitment to electrifying Britain’s businesses. With the award-winning Vivaro Electric continuing to be the leader in electric van sales and Vauxhall accounting for more than one in four electric vans sold in the UK in 2023, it’s clear that we are the brand of choice for van drivers looking to go electric.”
Vauxhall’s dominance in the UK electric van market proves the benefits that come with a commitment to emobility. Given these figures, it’ll hardly be surprising to see many more major manufacturers expanding their electric offerings to challenge for the crown. Bring on 2024!
