- Hot on the heels of the debut of the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the Italian firm has now revealed the design of the upcoming GranCabrio.
- For the first time, Maserati is giving this new shape GranCabrio the option of an all-electric drivetrain, in a similar form to the GranTurismo.
- The electric variant should be on sale by 2025 – the date by which Maserati hopes to offer electric variants of all its models.
The wraps are off the new GranCabrio
Maserati has released several photos of the GranCabrio, and the eagle-eyed among you will notice that the press photos show exhaust tips – but not to worry, the electric version will look nearly identical to this striking design, if the new GranTurismo is anything to go by.
There’s no confirmation yet on the performance figures of the electric Folgore variant, but the hardtop GranTurismo Folgore delivers 750hp for a 0-62mph time of 2.7 seconds, and a top speed of around 201 mph – all while still delivering up to 280 miles on a charge, making it a perfect grand tourer. If these figures remain true for the GranCabrio, it’ll pack significantly more power than the petrol variant, which could sway petrolheads to the electric model.
Electric convertible cars are a market that has notably grown in the last couple of years, but when it comes to the performance branch of that category, the competition is slim. The MG Cyberster goes on sale this summer, whilst we’re still waiting for the Tesla Roadster – which Elon Musk now claims will have a record-beating sub-one-second 0-60 mph time.
Mike Gale, Head of PR for Maserati North Europe, said:
“The 100% electric Folgore version of GranCabrio follows in the very near future, making it the third model in the House of Trident’s fast-growing, exciting electric range, after GranTurismo and Grecale, as Maserati looks to offer an electric version of every car it makes by 2025.”
