Plugable’s EV charger sharing pilot programme launches in the Northwest of England
Plugable has developed a new initiative to streamline EV charging accessibility and affordability through community-driven sharing. Building on a successful trial in Ireland, the programme is now on a soft launch in the Northwest of the UK. This pilot program allows EV drivers without home chargers to book convenient charging slots at local hosts’ residences or businesses.
Participants in the pilot will receive a £25 bonus credit towards their EV charging. The programme’s community-minded approach presents a real option for the future of EV charging. How better to support those without driveways than opening your own home charger to help others and earn a passive income?
Maebh Reynolds, Founder of Plugable, commented:
“Plugable is on a mission to provide access to the UK’s largest EV charging network by 2025, making charging accessible for everyone, everywhere. Our peer-to-peer network is coming to the UK to allow hosts to maximise the utilisation of their home chargers, earning passive income and supporting the wider EV community. By democratising access to EV charging, we aim to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.”
Drivers can use the app to find charge points and schedule sessions. Hosts, meanwhile, have the flexibility to set pricing and availability, earning passive income during downtime. With approximately 700,000 private charge points nationwide, Plugable is aiming for a wide pool of home chargers across the country.
Residents in Manchester, Liverpool, Warrington, Wigan, and Bolton can join the pilot now through the app. Feedback from early adopters will inform ongoing improvements as Plugable prepares for a nationwide rollout. Future plans include expanding partnerships with businesses such as gyms and hotels, further broadening access to EV charging options.
With initiatives like this one, Vauxhall’s Electric Streets of Britain, Sainsbury’s Smart Charge, and countless others, the UK is shaping up for a true charging revolution. Soon enough, no driver will be left behind.
