Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, stated:

“ChargePoint’s partnership with Eaton will deliver innovation that addresses the biggest barriers to electrified transportation. Together with Eaton we will create unprecedented value for institutions that deploy EV charging, accelerating electrification, and decarbonizing the planet in parallel.”

A key focus of the partnership is the development of bidirectional charging and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities. This technology allows EVs to both draw power from the grid and supply energy back to homes and buildings. It’s a major step forward for grid stability with the impending widespread transition.

The joint solutions will be managed through ChargePoint’s cloud platform, enabling seamless integration of chargers, infrastructure, and vehicles. This approach aims to optimise site power management, reduce costs, and improve reliability.

Paul Ryan, General Manager of Energy Transition at Eaton, added:

“Customers rely on Eaton to solve their toughest power management challenges. This game-changing partnership will help do just that for vehicle charging—bringing together trusted power distribution and EV charging solutions to simplify electrification at scale.”

This initiative complements ChargePoint’s ongoing efforts to expand EV charging infrastructure. In collaboration with General Motors, ChargePoint is installing up to 500 ultra-fast charging stations across the US in 2025. These stations will feature the Omni Port system, compatible with various connector types, and support charging speeds up to 500kW, significantly reducing charging times.

By partnering with Eaton and continuing collaborations with automotive manufacturers like GM, ChargePoint is reinforcing its commitment to building a comprehensive and user-friendly EV charging ecosystem.
