Canada accelerates EV adoption with official market approval for Workhorse electric step vans

Workhorse has received approval to sell its W56 and W750 electric step vans in Canada. Transport Canada has deemed that both vehicles meet the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). This approval allows Canadian dealers to import and sell these zero-emission commercial trucks nationwide.

The approval and forthcoming expansion into the Canadian market is a big step for Workhorse. The country is pushing for clean transportation solutions, and is pushing fleets as a prime opportunity to do so. Many businesses are eager to add electric delivery vehicles to their fleets. Workhorse has already seen strong interest from Canadian last-mile delivery companies. Companies like RIZON are also entering the market, showing the increasing appetite and healthy competition that’s propelling the nation’s EV efforts.

To demonstrate the trucks’ capabilities, Workhorse will begin on-road testing of demo vehicles by Q2 2025. The company is also working on growing its dealer network to better serve Canadian customers.

Josh Anderson, Workhorse’s Chief Technology Officer, commented:

“This is a major step forward for Workhorse. Pre-clearance from Transport Canada opens up a large new market for our products throughout Canada, including with fleets that operate across borders in North America. We’re excited that our electric step vans can now reach Canadian roads and highways, providing reliable, zero-emission solutions that customers can depend on.”

With Canada’s focus on net-zero emissions, the demand for electric commercial vehicles is growing fast. Workhorse is positioning itself as a key player in this transition.
