Volvo Trucks reaches milestone of over 5,000 electric trucks sold

  • Volvo Trucks’ route to decarbonisation is progressing, with the truck manufacturer reaching a milestone of 5,000 fully-electric trucks sold worldwide.
  • With over eight specific fully-electric models now on sale, Volvo Trucks hopes to take this figure even further in the coming months and years.
  • However, with many fleets still opting for diesel units, improving customer confidence in electric options is still a key aim for all HGV manufacturers, not just Volvo.

Volvo’s truck arm reaches a new milestone

The 5,000 units milestone comes after Volvo Trucks sold its first electric trucks to customers in 2019, spanning 50 countries – with Germany, the Netherlands, the U.S., Norway, and Sweden existing as its biggest sales markets for such trucks. Combined, these electric trucks already in operation have already driven nearly 170 million kilometres in service across endless operation types, proving the diverse capabilities of electric trucks.

Volvo Trucks position in an electric future is further solidified through the Milence public truck charging network, a joint venture ran between Daimler Truck, TRATON Group, and Volvo Trucks’ parent Volvo Group. With Milence expanding its charging hubs across Europe at an impressive pace, improving fleet’s confidence that electric HGVs are just as capable as their diesel counterparts even on longer haul journeys. Furthering that long-range confidence, Volvo is set to release a longer-range variant of its FH Electric truck by the end of the year, with a range of 600 kilometres (373 miles) – doubling that of the standard FH Electric’s 300 kilometre (186 miles) battery range. With this new truck opening up Volvo Trucks’ electric range to an even wider range of customers, we can expect its eHGV sales to grow even further into 2026.

Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks, commented on the milestone:

“It’s rewarding to see that transport companies continue to embrace the benefits with electric trucks in a wide range of transport segments. Volvo’s battery-electric trucks are available here and now, providing our customers and transport buyers with a more sustainable alternative that makes business sense, and many of our customers are coming back to us to grow their electric fleets.”
