- The latest sales figures from Volvo show a global growth in its fully-electric sales for July, compared to the same period last year.
- Additionally, 25% of the vehicles sold last month by the manufacturer were fully electric models. Including electrified plug-in hybrid models, that figure increases to 49%.
- Globally, 14,130 fully electric Volvos were sold in July 2024, compared to 5,504 in July 2023. Over 9,000 of these came from its new EX30.
Volvo’s strong EV growth continues
The isolated July figure isn’t an outlier, either. Looking at January to July 2024 sales, 104,890 Volvo BEVs were sold, compared to 64,764 in January to July of 2023. That already represents a record electric sales figure for this year, with over four months of the year still left to go.
The biggest rise in EV sales was seen within Europe, with fully electric sales growing from 2,712 in July 2023, to 10,314 in July 2024 – a whopping 280% rise. Those strong sales figures within Europe should be maintained, thanks to the manufacturer recently dropping its EX30 EV down to an even lower price. BEV sales increases were seen in all other regions, with the exception of the US, where fully electric sales dropped from 1,255 in July 2023, to 520 in July 2024. Year-on-year EV sales in the states are also lagging behind, too.
Overall, however, these results are something Volvo can be proud of. Longer term, the company aims for 100% of its car sales to be fully electric by 2030. With 25% of global cars sold last month being such vehicles, if it can maintain year-on-year increases, this goal is certainly achievable.
Björn Annwall, Chief Commercial Officer and Deputy CEO at Volvo Cars, commented:
“We are pleased to report another month of sales growth, which is driven largely by the sales in Europe despite a generally challenging market environment.”
