Volkswagen ID. Cross revealed as €27,995 electric SUV

Volkswagen reveals the ID. Cross electric SUV, with pricing from €27,995.

After teaser shots of a concept vehicle earlier this year, Volkswagen has now fully revealed the new ID. Cross, a fully-electric compact SUV that will open up the brand’s electric SUV range at a confirmed price of €27,995. In Germany, advance sales have already opened in parallel with the world premiere.

The Volkswagen ID. Cross sits on the new MEB+ electric car platform and will be offered with three power options of 116PS, 135PS, and 211PS, alongside the choice of a standard 37kWh battery or a longer range 52kWh unit. The latter will deliver a WLTP range of up to 427 kilometres, or 265 miles. Orders are open now in Germany for the ‘Life’ and ‘Style’ trim levels with the 52kWh battery, priced from €36,525. The most affordable €27,995 entry model is to follow later down the line. Pricing for regions such as the UK are yet to be confirmed, however.

The arrival of the ID. Cross, and other cheap electric cars hitting the market, once again proves how EVs are getting close to or achieving price parity with their petrol counterparts. In the case of the ID. Cross, its most comparable petrol sibling is the Volkswagen T-Cross, which starts at €25,280. With the cheapest ID. Cross set to start at €27,995, the initial price argument between the two is largely wiped away – and that’s before factoring in the significant day-to-day cost savings possible with an electric car.

The ID. Cross becomes the latest addition to the Volkswagen Group’s ‘Electric Urban Car Family’, a group of compact electric cars that all share very similar underpinnings, with this heavy level of part sharing allowing the group to economise and bring down vehicle costs. The other EVs within this family consist of the Skoda Epiq, Volkswagen ID. Polo, and CUPRA Raval.

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen, commented:

“The ID. Cross brings together technological expertise, clean design, impressive, intricate solutions and genuine all-rounder qualities – all for excellent value for money. These are ideal conditions for a new success story from Volkswagen.”
