Volkswagen forecasts rising EV sales with cheaper models coming

With the Volkswagen ID. Polo and ID. Cross arriving this year, could Volkswagen's EV delivery figures hit a new high?
  • Volkswagen has published its 2025 global delivery figures, in which total electric vehicle deliveries remained pretty much level with 2024 levels.
  • However, with cheaper electric models right around the corner, Volkswagen is forecasting these delivery figures to paint a different picture come the end of 2026.
  • Two more affordable Volkswagen EVs are set to come to Europe this year, opening up the possibility of EV ownership to an even wider audience.

Volkswagen expects flatlining EV deliveries to rise in 2026

The 2025 delivery figures published by Volkswagen show that across 2025, the brand delivered approximately 382,000 fully-electric vehicles globally, compared to around 383,100 in 2024. However, strictly on a European level, Volkswagen did see EV deliveries rise across 2025, with the best selling model in the ID. family being the ID.7. Europe also contributed to a significant proportion of its global EV deliveries, with approximately 247,900 EVs delivered to European customers across the year.

Going into 2026, the company is forecasting that demand for its fully-electric models will rise even further, as it continues to roll out new fully-electric models. This year, that will also include the Volkswagen ID. Polo, with a starting price of €25,000, and the Volkswagen ID. Cross, a small electric SUV which will also have an attainable price tag. Volkswagen believes this move to offer cheaper electric cars will directly contribute to a higher number of EV deliveries by the end of the year.

Going into 2027, there are even more affordable EVs arriving from Volkswagen, including the €20,000 ID. EVERY1. With the continuous arrival of affordable EVs from other brands, these EVs come at a crucial time in Volkswagen’s electrification journey.

Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing, and After Sales commented:

“The trend in our delivery figures underscores that our products are being well received by our customers and also that we are on the right track with our brand strategy. We expect the market environment to remain challenging overall in 2026. All the same, I firmly believe that thanks to our refreshed, attractive product portfolio and our clear focus on efficiency and competitiveness we are very well equipped to rise to this challenge. In China alone, we will be bringing out more than ten new electric models this year.”
