- Volkswagen has revealed a concept take on what will soon be the cheapest EV it offers, with a starting price of approximately €20,000 (£16,740).
- Following in the affordable and compact footsteps of the discontinued Volkswagen e-Up!, the production variant of the ID. EVERY1 is set to launch in 2027.
- The ID. EVERY1 will compete directly with budget EVs like the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03, but with a more premium badge attached, could it be enough to sway buyers?
VW to bring €20,000 EV to market in 2027
While the design of the ID. EVERY1 concept looks thoroughly modern, there are still design cues to Volkswagen’s previously discontinued small EV, the e-Up! – such as its maximisation of interior space, compact design – being just 280mm longer than the previous Up! – and a glass rear tailgate also hinting back to the Up!. It’s clear that Volkswagen wants the ID. EVERY1 to be a design classic, much like its predecessor is lauded for. It’s certainly got more design prowess than other current EVs at this low price point, looking more like a design rival for the more expensive Renault 5. How much of the design of this concept makes it into the final product remains to be seen, however.

The interior photos highlight an impressive amount of room, along with a central touchscreen that looks to control the many of the vehicle functions – though there does still seem to be physical buttons for temperature control. Specifications-wise, the concept has a front-driven 94 horsepower electric motor, capable of reaching a top speed of 81mph – while a drivable range of ‘at least’ 155 miles is being targeted.
At the reveal, Volkswagen also reiterated a likely 2026 launch window for the ID. 2all – a slightly larger electric city car, set to start at €25,000 (£20,930).
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, commented:
“The ID. EVERY1 represents the last piece of the puzzle on our way to the widest model selection in the volume segment. We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable all-electric entry-level mobility. Our goal is to be the world’s technologically leading high-volume manufacturer by 2030. And as a brand for everyone – just as you would expect from Volkswagen.”
