- Volkswagen Switzerland has a achieved a record range figure on the ID.7 Pro S EV, managing to travel 493 miles (794 kilometres) on a single charge.
- The entire journey was driven on a repeated 50 mile circuit, around the Swiss city of Zurich – with a mix of urban traffic, motorways, and country roads.
- Efficiency achieved on the run worked out at 10.3 kWh/100 km.
Volkswagen ID.7 exceeds its quoted figures
The record was undertaken by renowned EV hypermiler, Felix Egolf, who previously managed to exceed WLTP figures on Volkswagen’s ID.3 – reaching 374 miles (602 kilometres) on the long-range ID.3 Pro S.
The 493 miles covered on a single charge in this case exceeds the ID.7 Pro S’ quoted maximum combined WLTP range of 440 miles. As that figures name suggests, it covers combined styles of driving, attempting to give an accurate figure for the majority of drivers. This proves that with mindful driving, it is possible to actually exceed the figures quoted by manufacturers, in the same way that you can fall short of the quoted range with a more aggressive driving style.
In Pro S spec, the ID.7 comes as standard with a sizable 91kWh battery pack, which helps contribute to its already impressive quoted figures. With the ID.7 built on the same MEB platform as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, for example, it raises a question of whether Volkswagen could create a longer-range electric van, even more capable of road trips, in the future. For reference, the ID. Buzz only offers a WLTP range of 293 miles, in long wheelbase form.
