  • As part of Vauxhall’s ongoing Electric Streets of Britain campaign, the manufacturer has teamed up with property search website Zoopla to integrate EV charging filters into its property searching process.
  • With an increasing number of drivers making the switch to electric, access to EV charging – whether on the property, or at nearby locations – is at the forefront of buyers’ minds.
  • Vauxhall’s own survey data shows that 40% of UK drivers will consider proximity to EV charging as a key factor in a future house purchase.

Vauxhall and Zoopla help highlight homes with EV charging

Under the new partnership, users of Zoopla’s website will have the option to filter houses so that only those with an EV home charger already installed are shown. For properties without off-street parking, users can also view the nearest public chargers to their prospective house, thanks to location data provided by Octopus Electroverse. Right now, about 1 in 4 new car buyers are opting for fully-electric models, yet recent Zoopla statistics show that just 1.6% of all property listings on its site explicitly mention EV charging, highlighting a clear disparity which this partnership will look to address.

From Vauxhall’s latest survey of 2,000 drivers, it found that 79% of drivers would search for a future property with a driveway. 40% would still remain open to purchasing a house without a driveway, if there were sufficient on-street chargers located close to the property. This highlights the importance firms such as char.gy and Connected Kerb will play, in ensuring that all home owners have easy access to EV charging.

Steve Catlin, Managing Director of Vauxhall, commented:

“Moving house is one of the biggest decisions most of us make in our lifetime, and anyone who’s done it knows how much effort can go into finding the perfect home. As EVs become an even more common sight on our roads, more and more people will be prioritising charging access when thinking about where to live.

Vauxhall is absolutely committed to electrifying Britain, so, as a leader in the property industry, Zoopla was the perfect partner to help drivers find a new home that will allow them to charge EVs with ease. Whether charging at home or on-street, we hope the features we have worked with Zoopla to introduce go some way to make decisions around buying and renting a new home that little bit easier for millions across the country.”

Daniel Copley, Consumer Expert at Zoopla, added:

“We’re proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging. Buyer requirements are constantly evolving as a result of factors like lifestyle changes and commuting patterns. By improving Zoopla’s search functionality, our aim is that we will empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners.”
