The most popular electric cars according to TikTok (and it’s not Tesla)

Electric cars continue to increase in popularity with more and more models becoming available to suit all needs. Whether it’s a small town car, electric SUV or fully-fledged electric sports car they’re all available and all watched on TikTok

Car leasing specialists at Nationwide Vehicle Contracts have analysed TikTok trends and discovered the top 20 electric cars that we just can’t get enough of. The big news is that Tesla, which is by far the best-selling electric vehicle (EV) globally, doesn’t top the list.

1. Porsche Taycan – 52.3 million views

The Porsche Taycan is the brand’s first production all-electric sports car and it became an instant winner for the brand. In September 2020, the brand announced it was their best seller of all its cars. Porsche have also launched the electric Taycan Cross Turismo in 2022 which has to be the coolest-looking estate car on the road. 

2. BMW iX – 44 million views

The BMW iX is the German carmaker’s luxury mid-size electric crossover SUV manufactured. The iX is the first purpose-built electric vehicle by BMW since the i3 in 2013 and the fourth BMW i sub-brand model. In a recent collaboration with Our Next Energy (ONE), the Michigan-based energy storage company, signed an agreement with BMW Group to incorporate ONE’s Gemini Dual-Chemistry battery technology into the BMW iX that could deliver a range of 600 miles (966km).

3. Mercedes-Benz EQS – 29.9 million views

The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a full-size luxury electric saloon that was released in September 2021 in Germany. The EQS is the first EQ model that is based on the technical platform specific to the electric models, called the MEA. The sleeking-looking saloon offers an impressive range of up to 453 miles (729km) from its 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.

4. Tesla Model 3 – 28.4 million views

The Tesla Model 3 is a compact executive electric saloon that started life on the road in 2017. It offers a range of 272 miles (438 km), with the Long Range version delivering 358 miles (576 km). In September 2021 it was the best selling car, of all cars in Europe, and has won numerous awards

5. Audi e-tron GT – 17.4 million views

The Audi e-tron is a series of sleek and stylish electric cars to suit all needs. This includes the Q4 e-tron electric SUV, the sports Q4 Sportback e-tron, the larger Q8 e-tron electric SUV and it’s sports cousin the Q8 Sportback e-tron. The range-topping e-tron GT quattro and RS e-tron GT are sports cars that will impress even the biggest petrolhead.
