The Dacia Spring as one of the most affordable electric vehicles in the UK. Buyers can opt for a PCP plan at £169 per month with a £2335 deposit. That makes this car a huge step in making EVs far more accessible. It undercuts its nearest competitor, the Vauxhall Corsa Electric by nearly £7000.
The Spring is available at two trim levels
Both models come with a 26.8kWh battery that delivers a range of 137 miles, extendable to 186 miles depending on driving. The entry-level Expression model is equipped with a 44bhp motor, which accelerates from 0-62mph in 19 seconds. Standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen, cruise control, rear parking sensors, and a slew of mod-cons.
The 64bhp variant is available from £15,995
This model hits 0-62mph in a quicker 13.7 seconds and boasts larger 15-inch wheels. This model features an enhanced 10.0-inch touchscreen, additional USB ports, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also features a bidirectional charger, allowing the car to charge external devices.
As ever, charging is an important consideration in the process. A 7kW home charger can take the battery from 20% to 100% in four hours. The Spring also supports fast charging at speeds up to 48kW. As a city hopping hatch-back, that’s theoretically more than you’ll need.
Affordability has realistically overtaken range as the primary barrier for adoption. The introduction of new, cheap EV models is the most direct way to fight this. Cars like the Dacia Spring are changing the perception of EVs, turning them from high-ticket tech products to reasonable, accessible small cars. The long-awaited introduction of this truly budget-friendly EV is bound to ruffle some feathers in the automaking world.
