Tesla bundles one year of free Supercharging with new Model Ys in Europe

  • The Tesla Model Y might already be the best selling car in Europe, but that hasn’t stopped Tesla from letting off the brakes on its sales tactics, with the manufacturer now announcing an offer of one free year of access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, with the purchase of a new Model Y.
  • The offer, which is valid across all its European markets, is available on any new Model Y purchase before the 31st of December.
  • Combined with the manufacturer’s recent 0% APR offer, the manufacturer has made its family car EV more accessible than ever.

Tesla hopes to drive Model Y sales with new free charging offer

Looking back into the earlier days of Tesla, each EV it sold had the option of having free-of-charge Supercharging for life, though this offer was ended around 2017 after Tesla called the offer ‘unsustainable’. This new offer more closely mirrors limited time charging offers that other EV OEMs are also bundling with new car purchases – such as the offer of £500 worth of public charging bundled with EVs such as the new Vauxhall Mokka Electric. Tesla’s deal stands out as allowing for an unlimited amount of charging, within that one year period.

While charging at home is already the cheapest way to run an EV, this offer should make the Model Y a particularly sweet deal for those unable to charge at home. For those travelling 5,000 miles a year and only using the public charge network, depending on charge prices, this offer could work out at a saving of around £900 for the promotional period. Tesla did note that additional fees, such as idle charges, are not covered under the offer.

However, with Tesla’s new entry-level Model Y now offering a range of up to 373 miles between chargers, you might not be needing to make use of a public charger as much as you think.
