Virta teams up with Swedavia to take the next green step at Swedish airports

Swedavia has partnered with Virta to enhance electric vehicle (EV) charging at ten Swedish airports. This move aims to meet the rising demand for efficient EV infrastructure.

Virta’s platform, Virta Hub, will manage 800 charging points across major airports. These include Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg Landvetter, and Malmö Airport. The partnership will improve the user experience with smarter energy management and flexible billing systems.

Previously, EV charging costs were included in parking fees. Now, a transparent payment system will make charging easier and clearer for drivers. Virta’s advanced technology will also help Swedavia scale up without expensive upgrades. Features like dynamic load management ensure grid stability, even during peak times. This means airports can add more chargers as needed without strain.

The collaboration puts Swedavia in line with other leading airports, like Finavia in Finland and Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Travelers will benefit from seamless access to charging stations in Sweden, Finland, and beyond. Virta’s network covers over 60 countries worldwide.

Martin Lundgren, Country Director, Scandinavia at Virta, commented:

“There is a growing demand for scalable and efficient solutions for electric vehicles at airports. With our dynamic load management technology and other smart energy features, we can offer smooth experiences for EV drivers while ensuring the grid is stable at high-traffic locations.”

This step reflects Swedavia’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. While fully electric passenger planes may be in development, we can at least arrive at the airport without emissions or hassle.
