Suzuki to introduce first fully electric car next year, ahead of an EV future

  • Suzuki has confirmed that its first fully-electric car will arrive in the later half of 2025, as the manufacturer pivots to an all electric future lineup.
  • This transition will include the discontinuation of some of its ICE vehicles by next year.
  • Further EV models will be added in the run up to 2030.

Suzuki begins its full electrification

With its first battery electric vehicle now confirmed to arrive next year, Suzuki will be a relative latecomer to the BEV game. Japanese rivals such as Nissan released its first EV over 10 years ago, while Toyota has also launched its first EV more recently. Suzuki and Toyota already have a partnership, with some Suzuki hybrid models borrowing established drivetrains from Toyota models. It’ll be interesting to see whether Suzuki continues down this route for the EV era, and whether this model coming next year could be based on Toyota’s own EV architecture. This is the case with Subaru’s new Solterra: which, essentially, is a bZ4x underneath.

Suzuki has traditionally been known for good value vehicles, so we can expect this lineup to contain a model that can compete with the best cheap electric cars. If the brand also maintains its competitive seven year, 100,000 mile warranty offer for its future EVs, this upcoming lineup will be an even more attractive option for prospective electric car buyers.

Suzuki’s GB Director, Dale Wyatt, commented:

‘‘The departure of these models will make room for EV and enable us to compete during a period where our sales ratio of hybrid versus EV products will drive our business. We’re exiting the ICE era with a focus on SUV’s and new Swift, then starting in the second half of 2025 we’ll begin a period of EV growth.‘‘
