smart releases free over-the-air update to update #1 and #3 models
smart has unveiled a new free over-the-air (OTA) software update for its #1 and #3 EV models. It’s the fifth free OTA update since the new product generation’s debut.
The latest version introduces several improvements. Notably, it optimises the energy recovery management system, for greater efficiency. Additionally, it adds Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, which allows the vehicle’s traction battery to power external devices. The only physical part involved is a specialised vehicle-to-device cable.
The update also features a new low-energy regeneration setting. This option provides drivers with a gentler level of regenerative braking. The idea is to cater to different driving styles, thereby making every driver more comfortable. For the smart #1, there are new sound effects, including interior sounds and engine simulations.
Xuan-Zeng Goh, Head of Product Management at smart Europe GmbH, commented:
“At smart, the customer is at the centre of everything we do. We constantly listen to our customers’ feedback and strive to improve the user experience with every update. In this way we use technology intelligently and responsibly to continuously improve our products, providing our customers with a better ownership experience.”
The updating capabilities of these smart vehicles is yet another example of their enhanced versatility. Now, manufacturers can roll out new technologies with relative ease. Suddenly, smart models have gained V2L capabilities, along with a host of new features, and all drivers have to do is install. Now, as its line-up diversifies, older models will not be left behind.
