Škoda Auto has unveiled the Škoda Epiq, a city SUV crossover scheduled for launch in 2025. Priced around €25,000, this electric vehicle (EV) will make a significant impact in the market with its combination of affordability, spacious design, and advanced technology.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto, commented:
“The coming Škoda Epiq will package a lot of car for an attractive price and a big interior with a compact size. Our customers want choices, which is why we are expanding our growing e-mobility portfolio into this popular segment. I hope these first design teasers demonstrate that the Epiq will shine because of its modern design, everyday range and user-friendly technologies – all of it affordable.”
Power and charging
The Škoda Epiq boasts impressive technical specifications. It features an electric range of over 248 miles (400 kilometres), ensuring ample coverage for daily commutes and urban adventures. This range is made possible by the vehicle’s advanced battery technology, which offers reliable performance and efficiency.
One standout feature is its bidirectional charging capability. This allows the vehicle not only to charge from external sources but also to serve as a mobile energy storage unit. By feeding excess electric energy into homes or other appliances, the Škoda Epiq enhances its versatility and utility for owners.
Design and tech
The Epiq adopts the brand’s Modern Solid design language, characterised by robust lines and a confident profile. The exterior features sculpted lines and aerodynamic elements, while the interior prioritises practicality.
At 4.1 meters in length, the Škoda Epiq offers a generous interior space for up to five passengers. It’s accompanied by a luggage capacity of up to 490 litres. This spaciousness is complemented by a minimalist interior design emphasising durability and sustainability.
Technologically, it offers a range of connectivity features and assistance systems, enhancing the overall driving experience. From wireless mobile phone charging to Simply Clever compartments, the vehicle integrates innovative solutions to streamline daily tasks for drivers and passengers alike.
Oliver Stefani, Head of Škoda Design, explained:
“Our new design language – Modern Solid – represents the next level of modernity. Smart functionality and practicality are harmoniously balanced by attractive new looks and our sustainability approach. The Škoda Epiq design study perfectly embodies all the key attributes of the new design language.”
Produced as a joint venture with Volkswagen’s Brand Group Core representatives, the Škoda Epiq showcases the collaborative efforts of industry leaders. With its blend of affordability, practicality, and advanced technology, the Škoda Epiq is an exciting new contender in the low-cost EV market. This market is skyrocketing as high purchase prices become the main issue for new adopters. In 2025, many major manufacturers will have new, affordable EV models on the streets.
