Skoda teases performance variant of its most affordable EV

  • Skoda has released teaser photos of a ‘vRS’ variant of its all-electric compact SUV, the Elroq, which is currently the most affordable electric car offered by the brand.
  • The move marks the transition of Skoda’s vRS (Victory Rally Sport) marque into the electrified era, following in the steps of the hotted up Skoda Enyaq vRS.
  • The Elroq vRS will join an increasingly competitive segment of performance-focused electric crossovers, including models such as the MINI John Cooper Works Aceman and Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance.

Skoda to bring a mass-market fast EV to the market with the new Elroq vRS

The full reveal, which is set to take place on Thursday 3rd April, will be the second fully-electric Skoda to be made available under its vRS performance division. Following its online reveal, the Elroq vRS will be publicly exhibited at the Milan Design Week later in the month – in what is a recent trend of automakers showing off new EVs in unconventional spaces.

The teaser video uploaded by Skoda highlights a number of design changes for the Elroq vRS over the standard model, including an exclusive ‘mamba green’ paint finish, tweaked aero features, and a slew of vRS badges both inside and out.

Performance figures haven’t been revealed yet, but we can hope to hear more on that next week. The Elroq can already be specified with up to 282 horsepower, so expect the Elroq vRS to push the 300 horsepower barrier in that respect. As it shares the same MEB platform as the Enyaq, it could adopt the same 335 horsepower motor utilised in the Enyaq vRS. Pricing is also yet to be confirmed, but we can expect this model to start somewhere around the £45,000 mark.

2025 is looking to be a bumper year for those hoping for more attainable performance EVs. Just this week, Peugeot recently confirmed that its ‘GTI’ moniker will return in fully-electric form with a high performance version of its existing e-208 hatchback. Renault have also revealed the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, which is set to bring supercar levels of performance to the supermini segment – with over 540 horsepower on tap, being delivered to customers (in limited numbers) from 2027.
