Skoda Peaq cracks nearly 1,000km on single charge in new EV record

Skoda's new electric SUV exceeds its official battery range by nearly 45% in new range record attempt

Skoda’s new flagship electric SUV, the Skoda Peaq, might have an official maximum range of 640 kilometres (397 miles), but a new record attempt carried out by two Skoda employees, which was verified by TUV SUD, has seen the EV exceed that claimed range by nearly 45% – with the Peaq managing a total distance of 936 kilometres (581 miles) on a single charge of its 91 kWh battery. This achievement means the Peaq now holds a range record for electric seven-seat SUVs.

The attempt was carried out by Marek Jez, head of the Peaq model series, and Jakub Krs, who is responsible for high-voltage battery strategy at Skoda. The pair achieved the record in a production specification example of the Peaq, with no modifications to increase its efficiency. They set off from Skoda’s headquarters in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic, driving through Germany before reaching the Zandvoort in The Netherlands the afternoon. That was a 936 kilometre journey, achieving an average consumption of just 9.2kWh per 100km.

The Skoda Peaq isn’t the first EV to beat its official rated range, which takes into account a multitude of driving conditions and styles. Last year, we also saw the Kia PV5 electric van and Mercedes-Benz EQS exceed their rated ranges, in record-setting attempts. While you’re unlikely to achieve such a range figure yourself, it still goes to show that many modern EVs can easily meet their rated efficiencies and ranges.

Jakub Krs, Responsible for High-Voltage Battery Strategy at Skoda, commented:

“The aim was to demonstrate what the technology can achieve when pushed to its limits. To maximise the range, we selected the most suitable route and, of course, adapted our driving style accordingly.”

Marek Jez, Head of the Peaq model series at Skoda, added:

“In everyday use, customers are unlikely to drive the car this way. Instead, they will take advantage of everything the Peaq has to offer in terms of driving dynamics, onboard infotainment and comfort.”
