Skoda has begun series production of its new Skoda Peaq, a full-size electric SUV that becomes the brand’s flagship electric model. The Peaq is being manufactured in Skoda’s home country of the Czech Republic, on the same production line as its Elroq and Enyaq EVs.
Skoda’s largest and most expensive EV yet kicks off production
The start of production for the Peaq marks the ongoing transformation of Skoda’s Mladá Boleslav plant in the Czech Republic, which now accommodates the production of three fully-electric models – the Peaq, Elroq, and Enyaq, with just one combustion engined car, the Skoda Octavia, remaining in production at the plant.
With a length of nearly five metres and seating for seven, the Skoda Peaq is the largest Skoda ever built. It also sees the largest battery ever fitted to a Skoda EV, with the option for customers to specify a 91 kWh battery pack offering an impressive range of 640 kilometres (397 miles). And, with the seven-seat option likely to make it a popular hit with large families, it’ll have a number of electric seven-seat rivals to answer to, such as the Kia EV9 and Volvo EX90 – but is likely to significantly undercut them on price. Customer interest in the Peaq has already been strong since its initial launch back launch in June, with Skoda reporting almost 8,500 customer orders placed by the end of July.
Skoda has made significant expansions to its EV lineup this year. As well as launching the flagship Peaq, its most expensive EV, it also revealed its most affordable EV, the Epiq – which is already in production in Spain, built alongside its closely related cousin, the Volkswagen ID. Cross.
