Shell expands its electric truck charging infrastructure to the UK with new Markham Moor station
Shell has just opened its first UK electric truck charging station at Markham Moor, located on the A1 northbound. The facility is a major expansion of Shell’s European public truck charging network into a new territory. The network already includes sites in Germany and the Netherlands.
The Markham Moor station is equipped with a 400kw charger. The station also features a truck park with 122 spaces, 24-hour security, and amenities. They include truck-stop essentials like a convenience store, restrooms, and showers. The Shell Fuel Card integrates invoicing solutions, to help streamline the services.
Shell’s efforts are part of a larger strategy to support the electrification of heavy-duty transport.
Its interests in Germany and the Netherlands have created projects like the megawatt charger at the Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam. Recently, the general EV charging network under the Shell banner grew to over 100,000 units strong.
At Markham Moor, Shell is also introducing the Book & Charge system. This is a reservation service which will help fleets plan their stops and ensure charger availability.
Truck charging depots and megawatt or megawatt-ready stations are popping up across Europe as the world turns towards electric fleets. Shell’s new venture in the UK is a positive step towards ensuring we have the infrastructure in place to support electric haulage.
