- India-owned motorcycle manufacturer, Royal Enfield, has entered the fully-electric motorbike segment, with the launch of a new urban-focussed sub-brand which will exclusively offer electric options.
- The first to arrive will be the Flying Flea C6, with its design harking back to motorcycles produced during the WW2 era.
- Royal Enfield joins other manufacturers operating in the segment, including Maeving, who exclusively offer electric motorbikes, Harley Davidson, and more.
Royal Enfield goes electric
After the new sub-brand’s announcement at the EICMA Motorcycle Show, the first electric bike from the range will arrive in 2026, in the form of the Flying Flea C6. The ‘C’ stands for classic, putting it as a direct rival against bikes such as the Maeving RM1, but the firm is also set to launch electric motorbikes of other styles, such as scramblers, in the future.
The C6 is being positioned as a ‘city-plus’ motorbike – with a more urban orientation, while still having the capability to handle the occasional longer journeys outside of a city centre, owing to its battery range of around 90 miles. Despite its retro design, this means it’ll also be vying for consumer purchase against other urban electric motorbikes such as the BMW CE 02 and Kawasaki Ninja E-1.
Siddhartha Lal, Managing Director of Eicher Motors, Royal Enfield’s parent company, commented on the launch:
“The Flying Flea will be a family. It’s our family of city-plus electric motorcycles from Royal Enfield. It’s a full new start to Royal Enfield – we are going to give it the same love, same patience, and the same investment that we’ve given into our mid-sized motorcycle market, which has taken us to the number one position in the world in middle-weight motorcycles. We’re going to give the Flying Flea family the same amount of love and attention, and that’s what we’re really really excited about.”
