- Saudi Arabia’s first EV brand, Ceer, a collaboration between the nation’s sovereign wealth fund and Foxconn, is set to release a number of BEVs for sale across the Middle East and North African region, and will use Rimac electric drive systems.
- Rimac Technology has now announced that it will be the partner supplying high-performance electric drive systems for these future Ceer EV models.
- The deal is a signifiant win for Rimac, signifying another OEM partnership following earlier deals with firms such as BMW Group, while projects with other ‘premium European car makers’ are also in the works.
Rimac and Ceer team up for EV drivetrains
Whilst Rimac originally came to acclaim through high-performance electrification projects, such as its own Nevera supercar, and battery supply for manufacturers such as Aston Martin and Koenigsegg, this new deal highlights Rimac’s more mainstream pivot to supplying EV tech to the more affordable mainstream – and also stands out as Rimac’s first partnership within the GCC region.
With the recent opening of its Rimac Campus in Croatia, which will house high-volume battery developments for a number of European OEMs, we wouldn’t be surprised to see another significant OEM partnership in the near future.
Ceer’s first EV hasn’t yet been revealed, but plans to kickstart production are already well underway, with construction of the vehicle plant beginning earlier this year. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, which is part of the Ceer joint venture, also recently made a significant additional investment of $1.5 billion, into American EV brand Lucid Motors.
James DeLuca, CEO of Ceer, commented:
“We are delighted to be the first company and large-scale project in the GCC to partner with Rimac Technology in order to equip Ceer flagship vehicles with the most advanced high performance electric drive systems and solutions. Rimac’s global reputation and know-how in designing leading edge performance powertrain systems aligns perfectly with our strategic objectives of partnering with global industry leaders as we fulfill our commitment to delivering world-class, high performance electric vehicles and revolutionize the automotive industry in Saudi Arabia.”
Mate Rimac, Founder of Rimac Group, added:
“The collaboration with Ceer further solidifies Rimac Technology’s global electrification ambitions. This year alone we’ve announced several key partnerships, including with the BMW Group and Ceer, which will result in the production of tens of thousands of electric drive systems and battery systems for leading OEMs worldwide. With more exciting projects in the pipeline, we’ve strategically invested in our production facilities in Croatia, including the Rimac Campus and supporting infrastructure, which will soon be operating at full capacity.”
