Rimac begins production at new campus, with phase one complete

  • EV and battery tech manufacturer, Rimac Group, has completed the first phase of its new campus, located in its home territory of Croatia.
  • This first phase, which has come from a total investment of around €120 million, will house a number of activities for the firm, from Rimac Technology’s R&D and production, alongside production of Rimac’s electric hypercars: The Rimac Nevera and Nevera R.
  • Upon full completion of the facility, total investment is set to stand at over €300 million – marking one of the largest industrial projects undertaken in the Balkans region.

Rimac’s campus goes live

The production facility itself will stand at a sizable 75,000 square metres on the site, with an additional 25,000 being allocated to office space and other ancillary facilities. This location will also serve as a hub for the joint venture between Rimac and Bugatti, enabling both firms to share their expertise in the performance car sector.

Rimac’s new campus will also house three individual high-volume battery projects, for ‘premium European car makers’. While the specific clients have not been fully disclosed, we do know that earlier this year, Rimac agreed a long-term partnership with BMW. Under this agreement, the two firms will collaborate to co-develop high voltage electric car batteries.

The firm also notes that the new facility will also house three individual high-volume battery projects, for clients it calls ‘premium European car makers’. Whilst all three haven’t been specified, it’s already known that one of these clients will be BMW – with the two manufacturers agreeing a long-term partnership earlier this year, for the co-development of high voltage electric car batteries.

The completion of this first phase of the campus is a significant achievement, for a firm that was only founded in 2009, and has already achieved electric hypercar infamy through its EVs. The group is looking to expand its bases across the emobility world, after also recently expanding into the energy storage sector.
