- Renault has revealed more pictures of the all-electric Renault Twingo concept, set to hit the market in its final form in 2026.
- This is likely to become the cheapest electric car offered by Renault so far, with the manufacturer targeting a starting price below the €20,000 mark (£17,000).
- These more detailed photographs reveal more on how this all-new electric model was inspired by the original 1990s Twingo, which took much of Europe by storm.
Reveal of the Renault Twingo gets closer
With the manufacturer set to reveal the full road-going version of the Twingo in the near future, these new photos confirm that yet another one of Renault’s new EVs will be a design hit – alongside models like the Renault 5 E-Tech and ZFlexEVan concept. This will not actually be the first time that the Twingo name has carried a fully-electric drivetrain, with Renault offering the previous third generation Twingo in full-EV form, for several years.
Much of the design references the original Renault Twingo, launched in 1992. The front and rear lights will look familiar, whilst naturally evolving into LED units that help give this new Twingo a modern look – much the same way Renault has achieved a blend of modern-meets-retro with the new Renault 5 E-Tech. Renault has even left the iconic bonnet grilles from the original car, even though they’re not needed on an electric car like this.
Other than pricing, little is known about the performance specs of the Twingo just yet. Renault have noted that it’ll have a relatively high efficiency of 10kWh per 100km, which could help boost range above its rivals. For reference, the Leapmotor T03 has a quoted efficiency of 16.3kWh per 100km.
By the time the Twingo hits the market, it’ll have a number of similarly priced and sized electric rivals to contend with. There’s the sub-€19k Leapmotor T03, built in collaboration between Stellantis and Leapmotor, whilst in the UK, the budget BYD Seagull is also set to arrive next year.
Teaser photos of the new Renault 4 EV, which also hark back to a retro design, were also revealed last week – with a full reveal of the 4 set to take place at Paris Motor Show, on the 14th of October.
