- Renault’s strategy of referencing back to classic models on new EVs is set to continue, after it revealed some close up shots of the upcoming, all-electric, Renault 4 E-Tech.
- Inspired by the original 1961 Renault 4, the new EV will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show, on the 14th of October.
- The Renault 4 E-Tech is being targeted at the supermini B-segment, existing alongside the Renault 5 E-Tech.
Another retro EV joins Renault’s lineup
Just a couple of weeks ago, we explored how recent Renault EV launches have all been big design hits, from the viral Renault 5, to the upcoming Twingo EV. It looks as though that streak is to be carried on, if these teaser photos of the new Renault 4 E-Tech are anything to go by. The photos demonstrate several design references to the original model, brought into the modern era: Such as the three-stage taillights, unique rear quarter windows, retro ‘4’ badging, and fabric folding roof.
Whilst we can expect more details on the 4 at its Paris Motor Show premiere, we do know that it’s based on the same AmpR Small platform as the current Renault 5, and future Twingo. At a length of 4.14 metres, it’s a tad longer than its 3.92 metre sibling, the Renault 5, which will make it an even more practical choice, combined with five doors instead of the 5’s three – just like the original 1960s model. Expect a price at or below the €30,000 mark, similar to the Renault 5.
The manufacturer is clearly expecting the new 4 to be a popular hit on launch. Just like with the Renault 5, it’ll be launching the ‘R4 R Pass’, allowing potential buyers to pay an extra fee to be at the front of the order queue, and be one of the first to take delivery of the new EV.
