Proviridis saves space and propels emobility with underground Kempower charging solution
Proviridis, a French clean energy company, has developed an innovative underground truck charging system. This new solution will help the logistics industry go electric without losing valuable parking space at depots.
Traditionally, installing truck chargers takes up a lot of ground space. Finding new space on-site is a big issue for fleet operators. Proviridis solved this problem by placing Kempower’s DC fast-charging equipment underground. This design saves space and allows depots to keep their parking spots.
The system was first tested at Proviridis’ multi-energy station in Saint Quentin Fallavier. The trial was successful, showing that an underground setup could work in a real-world setting. The underground system is linked to a 600kW Power Unit above ground. This setup can charge up to eight trucks at once and gives fleet operators more flexibility with their charging needs.
Olivier Verdu, Technical Director at Proviridis, added:
“We have a long history of investing in innovations like integrating battery storage vehicle charging at our multi-energy stations and are proud to have pioneered this new solution using Kempower technology. Robustness and flexibility are two essential elements for trucking equipment and the Kempower Control Unit proved to be uniquely positioned to withstand the necessary conditions for the underground solution to work. The product is durable across a wide spectrum of temperatures and conditions, requires minimal ventilation, and can cater for a wide range of customer needs. These are features which perfectly place the Kempower solution for this type of charging configuration in a logistics environment.”
One key advantage of this underground solution is its protection from damage. The equipment is durable and can operate in different weather conditions, needing only minimal ventilation. It also charges trucks quickly, with a 240kW power output, allowing a full charge in under an hour.
This system could be a game-changer for truck charging stations. It uses space efficiently and offers a cheaper alternative to overhead gantries. Proviridis plans to expand this solution across France, exclusively using Kempower’s fast-charging equipment.
