Polestar has launched a new SUV body shape-variant of its Polestar 4 model, bringing the option of increased practicality to the model originally only offered in a couple-style body format.
The new model becomes the second EV offered in this body shape by Polestar, following the Polestar 3, but this model will be a more accessible entry into Polestar SUV ownership. UK pricing for the Polestar 4 SUV has been confirmed to start at £54,750, well over £20,000 less than the starting price of the Polestar 3 electric SUV.
This also means it arrives more affordable than the Polestar 4 Coupe, which starts at £56,750 in the UK. While you lose some of the sporty looks from the original and the unique rear-windowless design is gone (the latter might be seen as a plus to some), it brings increased practicality over its coupe cousin. Total luggage capacity with the rear seats down rises to 1,665 litres compared to the coupe’s 1,536 litre capacity, while the changed shape also adds an extra 2.5 centimetres of headroom to the interior.
It still carries the same premium EV technology as the coupe variant, with a battery range of up to 391 miles depending on specification, along with the option of a dual motor variant delivering 544 horsepower and a 0-62mph time of only 3.9 seconds.
While this new variant is being billed as an SUV, and its dimensions and practicality certainly reflect that, we certainly think there’s a hint of estate car in the design. With Volvo yet to release a fully-electric estate car, could the Polestar 4 SUV be the next best Swedish alternative?
