The wait is over for the Polestar 4
EV enthusiasts rejoice as the much-anticipated Polestar 4 hits European and Australian markets today. Online sales start at £59,990. Following its successful debut in China at the close of 2023, this EV provides a fresh perspective on SUV coupés. So, let’s take a look at the emobility specialist’s latest offering.
Tech-first
The Polestar 4 is packed with cutting-edge tech. The infotainment system, powered by Android Automotive OS and the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, features a 15.4-inch landscape-oriented screen. Integration with Google, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play, provides a connected experience. Regular over-the-air updates ensure the latest software enhancements without the need for a workshop visit.
As is customary in the EV sector, tech and safety go hand-in-hand. This EV incorporates intelligent safety technology such as the SuperVision Advanced Driver Assistance System from Mobileye. Optional features like the Pilot Pack with Pilot Assist and lane change assist enhance safety further. The Plus Pack and Pro Pack offer comfort and technology upgrades. This allows buyers to personalise their Polestar according to their preferences.
New look
The EV blends coupé aerodynamics with SUV spaciousness, positioning itself between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 in terms of size and price. Drawing inspiration from Polestar’s concept cars, the design features a unique Polestar light signature, retractable door handles, and a seamless, frameless window design. These elements prioritise enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, with the absence of the rear window contributing to a distinctive rear occupant experience. A full-length glass roof and ambient lighting add to the overall interior ambiance.
The Polestar 4 claims to have the lowest carbon footprint among its counterparts. Manufactured in Geely Holdings’ Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) factory in China, the production process employs green electricity and a higher percentage of low-carbon aluminium. Internally, a mono-material approach incorporates recycled PET and bio-attributed materials, aligning with Polestar’s commitment to eco-friendly luxury.
Performance and Range
Beyond its design and sustainability, the Polestar 4 boasts impressive performance as the fastest production car developed by the brand. With a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds and a maximum power output of 400 kW (544 hp), the Polestar 4 promises an engaging driving experience. Variants include both dual- and single-motor options, with long-range versions featuring a 100 kWh battery and targeting WLTP ranges of up to 580 km for the dual motor and up to 610 km for the single motor.
The Polestar 4 represents a shift in the SUV coupé landscape. With its unique design, commitment to sustainability, notable performance, advanced technology, and focus on safety, the Polestar 4 is poised to make a significant impact in the competitive market.
