Ohme rewards EV drivers with £100K in groundbreaking winter energy trial
Ohme has rewarded EV drivers with over £100,000 during the ongoing Ofgem Winter CrowdFlex trial. The trial, which began in September 2024, encourages participants to plug in their EVs at home whenever parked. It runs until April 2025, making the current rewards even more impressive, as the trial is only halfway through.
The CrowdFlex trial, led by the Electricity System Operator (ESO) for Great Britain, is the UK’s largest domestic energy flexibility study. It aims to show how EV drivers can support grid stability and reduce energy costs.
David Watson, CEO of Ohme, commented:
“Crowdflex is Ohme’s biggest ever flex trial to date, showing discernable progress and strengthening our belief in the material impact that domestic customers can have in providing grid flexibility services.
With grid flexibility services estimated to save consumers £10bn per year in energy costs by 2050 and with Ohme looking to help even more customers in 2025 with our ongoing trials, we are looking forward to further demonstrating the important role domestic customers can play in the drive towards Net Zero.”
Ohme is working alongside a consortium that includes OVO, AWS, and National Grid Electricity Distribution. Funded by Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund, the project demonstrates the potential of domestic energy flexibility.
