At the recent Commercial Vehicle Show (CV Show), electric vehicles certainly stole the limelight. The event showcased many brand-new electric commercial vehicles and important announcements, giving a glimpse into the future of sustainable transportation.
Here are our top picks from this year’s event:
Canoo LDV 190
Making its UK debut, Canoo showcased its range of compact yet very cool American vans at the CV Show, its third stop on its UK tour, following The Great British Fleet Event and Bicester Heritage April Scramble.
At the CV Show, Canoo certainly drew in the crowds with the unique design of their three vans on display. Among them, the LDV 190 stood out as our favourite, offering a cargo volume of 4.8 cubic metres, the biggest out of the Canoo line up, and an impressive payload capacity of 1,624 lbs.
Equipped with an 80kWh battery, this little van boasts a range exceeding 200 miles and a rapid charging time of just 32 minutes (20%-80% charge) with a DC Fast charger (up to 150 kW).
With its very compact 1.9-meter total length, we can see the LDV 190 being perfectly poised to help revolutionise city deliveries with its compact size and zero tailpipe emission operation. We have our fingers crossed that this van will soon be available to order in the UK.
B-ON Pelkan
It was wonderful to witness the UK debut of the B-ON Pelkan at the CV Show, especially since ElectricDrives had the privilege of being among the first to test-drive this vehicle just last month in Spain.
B-ON made an exciting announcement at the show regarding their partnership with the Chinese manufacturer, Chery, to facilitate the launch of the van in the market later this year.
The B-ON Pelkan range offers two models with different battery capacities: the Pelkan 43 (43.5kWh) has a 226km range and 1350kg payload, while the Pelkan 54 (53.6kWh) extends to 279km but with a 1300kg payload. Both have an 85kW motor and charge quickly. Pricing is estimated at £30,000 to £33,000. We are excited for this reasonably priced medium van to come to market soon.

Mercedes-Benz eActros 400 (6 x 2)
Unfortunately, there were no all-electric truck brands at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, a departure from the previous presence of both Volta Trucks and Tevva. Nonetheless, exciting developments are still unfolding in the truck industry.
Our top pick this year was the Mercedes eActros 400, which caught our attention on the test drive. This 27-tonne truck features innovative ‘e-axle’ technology and a 420kWh battery for a 250-mile range.
The eActros 400 is actually an extended-range version of the eActros 300, and is said to be priced at approximately £290,000. This electric truck represents a significant advancement in sustainable transport and is available to order now. We eagerly anticipate its integration into fleets very soon.
Maxus eDeliver 5
Revealed at the show, the Maxus eDeliver 5 combines style and functionality with its fun two-tone paint colour and friendly design, reminiscent of the VW ID Buzz.
Powered by a 64kWh battery, this medium-sized van boasts a 208-mile driving range and a rather decent payload capacity of 1,200kg, making it an ideal choice for a number of use cases.
Priced at £34,000 (ex VAT), the eDeliver 5 offers both versatility and affordability, with deliveries set to commence in August 2024. With load capacities ranging from 6.6 to 7.6 cubic meters, this budget-friendly van promises a reliable and efficient transportation solution for businesses of all types. We look forward to seeing this van out on the roads very soon.
Ford e-Transit Custom
The Ford ‘Electric Avenue’ display at the CV Show was fantastic to see, and it showcased their complete dedication to electric commercial vehicles.
Among their large range of electric vans was the Electric Ford Transit Custom, which captured our attention with its vibrant electric blue colour and sleek design.
Priced around £39,500 (ex VAT), this e-Transit Custom features a 74kWh battery, offering a range of 163-209 miles and a payload of up to 1,088kg. Rapid charging at up to 125 kW enables a 41-minute charge from 15 to 80 percent, with a full charge taking under eight hours.
Given the popularity of the diesel Ford Transit Custom in the UK, we are optimistic about the electric version’s market debut. We anticipate its success in driving a more sustainable future for commercial transportation.
Final Thoughts
These innovative electric vehicles, from established OEMs to emerging startups, embody the sector’s dedication to sustainability and advancement. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming developments and the exciting prospects for the CV Show in 2025.
