- Fastcharge, Norwegian chargepoint operator for electric trucks and buses, have announced a joint partnership with chargepoint manufacturer Kempower, and emobility experts Wennstrom.
- The partnership has resulted in Norway’s first public charging station for electric trucks, based in the nation’s capital, Oslo, opening last month.
- The opening is part of Fastcharge’s plan to open four electric truck charging stations before the end of the year.
Fastcharge calls on Kempower’s expertise
The chargepoints at the site, reserved exclusively for electric trucks, are capable of charging speeds of up to 400kW. The site is run by Kempower’s modular Power Unit, which allows up for eight chargers to be powered from a single unit. This also futureproofs the site, ensuring easy compatibility with the manufacturer’s upcoming Megawatt Charging System – which will allow for charging power north of 1MW (1,000kW).
While many truck depots within the country already have electric charging points, Norway will particularly benefit from this growing network for recharging during journeys, as the government has set a target for all new trucks within the country to be fully electric by 2030. That’s a significantly more ambitious target than any other European country, but not surprising, from a country with one of the highest rates of electric car adoption in the world – where over 90% of passenger cars sold are fully electric.
Erik Kanerva, Sales Director of Northern Europe at Kempower, comented:
“This pioneering truck charging project with Fastcharge and Wennstrom is a great step forward for the electrification of transport in Norway. Offering public, on-the-move charging for trucks that is reliable, scalable, and user-friendly is critical for the adoption of electrical trucks. We look forward to building many more truck charging stations together.”
