  • Vauxhall and sibling brand Opel have revealed the Mokka GSE Rally, the first EV to be developed to the FIA’s new eRally5 regulations for electric rallying.
  • Based partly on the road-going Mokka Electric, the new EV is designed to take on the world of rallying.
  • The fully-electric rally car is making its public debut at the 60th series of the ELE Rally, taking place in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands.

Mokka joins the electric rally stage

Opel has already brought fully-electric vehicles to the world of rallying since 2021, when it debuted the Corsa Rally Electric. This new Mokka GSE Rally builds upon the technical expertise of this current motorsport model. The Mokka GSE Rally might have the same body shape and battery capacity of the road-going Mokka Electric (54 kWh), but that is mostly where the similarities end. Power is up to 280 horsepower, and other changes include a reworked suspension and chassis, as well as changes to the battery management software to maximise efficiency and performance under rally conditions.

The UK-specific Vauxhall brand has not yet participated in this all-electric rally cup yet, unlike sibling brand Opel, but with this new rally prototype, it has the potential to be used in other racing competitions from 2026. Electrified motorsport is not only a way to reduce emissions associated with the activity, but could also serve as a useful tool for mainstream EV adoption, by further putting electric cars on the centre stage of consumer’s eyes.

Unlike Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Rally, however, the Mokka GSE Rally won’t be available for purchase from the general public.

Opel and Vauxhall CEO, Florian Huettl, commented:

“For more than four years, Opel and the ADAC have been demonstrating that electric rallying is a winning success and excites fans. With our new Mokka GSE Rally, we are offering a glimpse of a fully electric next-generation rally car. Thanks to the latest motorsport technology, the prototype offers potent performance and power in equal measure.”

Rebecca Reinermann, Vice-President of Marketing at Opel and Vauxhall, added:

“The Mokka GSE Rally will set Vauxhall Motorsport fans’ pulses racing and deliver real ‘OMG!’ moments. The electric rally prototype proves that our GSE sub-brand is going to the next level in 2025 with electric thrills and high-level performance true to our rich motorsport heritage.”
