Monta joins ChargeUK to assist the UK’s EV transition

  • This week, EV charging platform Monta has joined EV charging industry body ChargeUK, to aid in the UK’s ongoing transition to electric vehicles.
  • Here, the firm will hope to apply its technical expertise to ChargeUK to help further understand the challenges faced by the UK EV industry, helping to inform government policy.
  • Monta joins a growing number of associate members of ChargeUK, which also includes Virta, Octopus Electroverse, Compleo, and more.

Monta is the latest EV charging firm to join ChargeUK

Monta’s associate membership to ChargeUK will help the firm to play a key role in influencing future UK policy surrounding the country’s EV charging sector. The move also strengthens Monta’s own commitment to expanding EV charging access and reliability across the country.

The membership comes at a key time for the charging sector. The UK’s ZEV mandate is less than five years away, with demand for public charging infrastructure forecast to grow significantly both in the run up to this deadline and beyond. The number of public charge points in the UK currently sits at over 84,000, but the Department for Transport has set a target of 300,000 public charge points by 2030 – indicating the significant growth that could take place over the next five years.

Other current members within ChargeUK include key CPOs, such as Fastned, Sainsbury’s Smart Charge, Tesla, Source, and more.

Jon Evans, Head of Market, UK & Ireland at Monta, commented:

“With less than five years until the 2030 deadline, the UK EV sector is at a pivotal moment. Being part of ChargeUK will allow Monta to collaborate with other members to help shape policy, unlock more investment and expand access to quality EV charging as we look to continually improve the UK’s EV charging infrastructure.”

Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK, added:

“Having Monta onboard is yet another example of the desire within the EV industry to come together and support the transition to EVs by ensuring that convenient and affordable charging is rolled out at pace.

By publicly committing to invest over £6 billion by 2030, ChargeUK members are delivering and operating world-class charging infrastructure, creating jobs, supporting economic growth, and powering the UK’s switch to electric vehicles.”
