- Ultra-rapid public EV charging provider bp pulse has partnered with UK motorway services operator Moto, to help support the use of electric HGVs across the country.
- Under the agreement, bp pulse will roll out high-power electric truck charging at three motorway locations initially: Lymm Services on the M6, and Toddington Northbound and Southbound on the M1.
- At each site, six pull-through bays will have both CCS and MCS capability, allowing for charge speeds of up to 1,000kW, to offer the fastest recharge times for large eHGV batteries.
bp pulse and Moto to increase long-haul eHGV viability in the UK
The first site under the agreement is set to go live in 2026, and the network will not only assist UK-based eHGV operators, but also those firms making eHGV trips to and from mainland Europe. Future sites beyond these initial three, which are yet to be decided, will also be built on crucial UK motorway corridors, enabling eHGV travel along key logistics routes. By 2030, Moto plans to have up to 300 eHGV charging bays, across 23 motorway service locations.
This project also helps aligns with bp pulse’s UK strategy for eHGV charging with its European Union strategy, where it aims to build truck charging hubs across Trans-European Transport Network routes – defined corridors which are seen as key for transportation across the EU.
bp pulse and Moto’s partnership will help further realise the impressive capabilities of electric trucks, showing them to be viable replacements for the large proportion of UK logistics firms which are still largely operating diesel-powered units.
Moto CEO, Ken McMeikan, commented:
“I am really excited about our plans with bp to provide electric charging stations for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). At Moto, we’re committed to leading the way in enabling the UK’s electric mobility. By partnering with bp pulse, we are delivering the infrastructure and innovation electric fleets need, making our vision for long-haul electrification more practical and accessible.”
Jo Hayward, Vice President of bp Mobility & Convenience Retail, added:
“We’re committed to helping fleet operators transition to EV trucks and that means delivering the infrastructure they need where they need it. Our partnership with Moto is a perfect fit: the team shares our focus on making electric truck charging as convenient as possible for our customers, and providing them with a brilliant experience. Together, we’re making it easier for fleet managers to keep their electric trucks moving with less downtime, lower emissions and a clear path to an electric future.”
Nigel Head, Vice President of European E-Truck at bp pulse, said:
“This is a natural next step in our ambition to support fleets as they transition to electric trucks. We’ve proven in Germany that this model works, and now we’re applying that same expertise to the UK. Moto’s locations offer an ideal foundation, with strong motorway access and a customer base that will serve both UK and European freight operators.”
