  • The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has set a new milestone in long-distance eHGV logistics, with the use of a Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 to transport its race cars a distance of 673 kilometres, from its UK base to the Zandvoort Circuit for the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix, earlier this summer.
  • The team has become the first within Formula 1 to use an electric HGV for logistics during the European season.
  • With the eActros 600 offering a battery range of over 500 kilometres, and the ability to rapid charge the battery from 20% to 80% in 25 minutes, it’s perfectly suited for zero-emission, long-distance cargo transportation.

Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 showcases the capabilities of electric HGVs

The achievement by the F1 team serves as a blueprint for the wider logistics industry, proving that electric HGVs are more than capable of long-distance transportation – even for the most time critical industries, such as Formula 1. With support being seen for both depot charging and truck-specific public charging through firms such as Milence, the number of businesses operating electric trucks over the next few years is set to grow significantly. Recently, other truck manufacturers have also displayed impressive proof that these vehicles work, such as MAN’s recent news that customer eHGVs have already successfully covered a combined five million kilometres in operation.

According to Formula 1, approximately 45% of emissions related to the F1 season can be attributed to road, air and sea travel logistics – compared to just 0.7% being attributed to the F1 cars themselves. A more widespread adoption of electric trucks across all Formula 1 teams could make a significant impact in reducing emissions associated with the sport.

Ash Armstrong, eConsultancy Manager for Daimler Truck UK, commented:

“We are continuing to push the boundaries of what is possible with battery electric trucks. Our partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team is key in demonstrating that sustainable, long-haul distribution has arrived with our eActros 600.

We could not be more thrilled that one of our eActros 600 trucks has been used to transport the team’s W16 cars from Brackley to Zandvoort. We are extremely proud to showcase the impressive range and capability of this truck. It just goes to show that the era of electrification is upon us and range anxiety is no longer an issue.”
