Milence to build 70 new electric truck charging hubs across Europe with €111 million EU investment

  • Milence receives over €111 million EU funding to develop 70 electric truck charging points across Europe by 2027.
  • The project will enhance electric trucking efficiency, supporting the European Green Deal and increasing electric heavy-duty vehicle adoption.
  • The company plans 70 new hubs and 570 charge points across Europe by 2025, aiming for 1,700 by 2027.

Milence secures €111 million in EU funding to accelerate its European electric truck charging network expansion

Milence has been awarded over €111 million in EU funding to accelerate the development of charging infrastructure for electric trucks. This funding will support the MILES (Mobility Infrastructure for Logistics – Electric & Sustainable) project. The project is part of the European Union’s push to decarbonise transport.

Through this project, Milence will install 284 Megawatt Charging System (MCS) and 264 Combined Charging System (CCS) points across 71 locations in 10 EU countries. The charging points will be strategically placed along key transport routes, including all nine European transport corridors and in urban hubs. The goal is to create the first pan-European network for heavy-duty electric vehicle (eHDV) charging.

They will complete the project by 2027, to make electric trucking more efficient and accessible at a crucial juncture for the industry. It will improve the attractiveness of the heavy-duty transport sector, supporting the European Green Deal’s climate-neutral economy target by 2050.

Milence is already leading Europe’s electric truck revolution with 13 operational charging hubs in six countries. These hubs connect major ports and logistics centres, such as Antwerp to Duisburg and Malmö to Gothenburg.

Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence, commented:

“Being selected as a leading project and receiving a large share of EU funding is a testament to the remarkable progress Milence has made in just two years. It reflects the trust we’ve built in our ability to deploy Europe’s largest public charging network for heavy-duty electric vehicles. The AFIF’s call is an important step towards making HDV (Heavy Duty Vehicles) charging hubs strategic pillars of Europe’s transport future. This is a continental mission and working together is essential. I congratulate all funded projects and am happy to join forces in building a more sustainable future for Europe.”

In September 2024, Milence announced its plans to build 70 new charging hubs across Europe throughout 2025. Its first Nordic and German sites have already opened. The expansion will bring the total number of high-power charge points to 570.

This expansion is part of Milence’s broader goal to install 1,700 high-power charge points across Europe by 2027. The network will ensure that electric trucks have access to fast and reliable charging across major transport corridors, supporting the transition to cleaner transport across the continent.
