Milence opens its first German truck charging locations

  • Electric truck charge point operator, Milence, has now expanded to Germany, with the opening of two new charging hubs, helping facilitate the use of electric HGVs on key routes between Berlin, southern Germany, and Poland.
  • A total of 12 charging points are being installed as part of the move, while Milence is planning to open many more charging hubs in the country in the future – as seen on its network map.
  • The new hubs will offer charge speeds of up to 400kW.

Milence expands its European truck charging network

Milence notes that over 30% of Europe’s road freight passes through Germany, which means that strong eHGV charging infrastructure in this area will be crucial for the future. The two new German hubs are soon set to be joined by another six locations opening in the country in the near future.

Milence CEO, Anja van Niersen, commented:

“The opening of our first two hubs in Germany is a testament to our commitment to keeping pace with the market’s growing demand for reliable and accessible electric charging infrastructure. As the dominant road transport market in Europe, Germany is pivotal in driving the transition to fossil-free road transport. We are determined to maintain this momentum and work with all local stakeholders to prioritise infrastructure and build in line with market demand.”

2024 has been a significant year of growth for Milence, which was only founded as a joint venture between Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, and Traton Group back in 2022. Back in October, it made its first expansion to the Nordics with its first Swedish charging hub opening. By the end of 2025, it hopes to have at least 70 separate charging hubs open across Europe.

With more long-range electric trucks coming onto the market from firms such as Renault Trucks and Mercedes-Benz Trucks, combined with charging networks like Milence, daily driveable mileage of over 1,000 kilometres is becoming achievable with electric trucks. This feat is key for encouraging faster adoption of such vehicles, particularly amongst longer-distance haulage firms.
