- As part of the British Motor Show Best Cars of the Year Awards, the all-electric MG Cyberster won the prestigious award for the best sports car.
- The Cyberster was commended for its blend of environmental credentials, supercar-rivalling performance, and high level of value.
- The MG’s interior design, featuring a three-piece screen that wraps around the driver cockpit, also impressed the panel of judges.
The best sports car is electric
At the same event last year, the overall best car award was awarded to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz. Electric cars have already begun to dominate not just this particular awards event, but other events, such as the Car Dealer Power Car of the Year, which went to the BYD Dolphin, and the Geneva Motor Show Car of the Year award, which was won by the Renault Scenic E-Tech.
Deliveries of the Cyberster are expected to start this month in the UK. Prices will start at £54,995 in single motor form, a significant chunk cheaper than any of its electric sports car rivals. The dual motor, 496hp version starts at a slightly higher £59,995, and is the fastest accelerating road-legal MG ever produced.
Mike Rutherford, Founder and Chair of the Best Cars of the Year Awards, commented on the MG’s accolade:
“Those who have already seen the bright yellow Cyberster on the Best COTY stand on the opening day of The British Motor Show this week will confirm the car somehow looks even better, classier and more handsome in the flesh than it does in photographs… Starting at under £55,000 it offers truly unbeatable value for money. It looks like a supercar – but is in the same price league as some comparatively dull hatchback EVs from rival manufacturers.”
