Renault’s Scenic E-Tech Electric secured the prestigious title of “The Car of the Year 2024” at the Geneva International Motor Show on 26th February 2024. This marked the seventh time a Renault vehicle has earned this coveted award. This, coupled with the unveiling of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, is a clear sign of the electric intent of the brand.

In a field of formidable contenders, including BMW 5-series, BYD Seal, Kia EV9, Peugeot E-3008/3008, Toyota C-HR, and Volvo EX30, the Scenic stood out. It secured the top spot with an impressive 329 points from a jury consisting of 58 motoring journalists representing 22 countries.

Developed on the medium AmpR platform (formerly CMF-EV), the Scenic E-Tech Electric is made for the urban world. Weighing 1,890 kg and measuring 4.47 m in length, its compact and agile design positions it as a city-friendly choice. Meanwhile, the vehicle’s WLTP range of up to 625 km (<388 miles) makes the Scenic ideal for both city and long-distance driving.

Renault’s CEO, Fabrice Cambolive, celebrated the achievement:

“Winning the prestigious ‘The Car of the Year’ award is a great source of pride for everyone at Renault Group and the Renault brand. This recognition demonstrates that we have made the right choices: record-breaking range, generous and inviting roominess, all with a closely managed environmental footprint! When you add in the driving pleasure and ‘voiture à vivre’ equipment such as the new Solarbay panoramic sunroof or the latest generation OpenR Link system with integrated Google systems, Scenic has all the right features to shore up its position on the European EV market.”

Beyond its accolades, the Scenic E-Tech Electric enters the market with a competitive edge. Priced under €40,000 at the entry-level, the vehicle is set to make a notable impact on EV affordability. Orders are underway, and the first wave of vehicles will debut in the Renault network shortly.

The unveiling of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric adds fuel to Renault’s emobility fire. Set to release in Q1 2025, this compact EV is also due to sport an attractive price tag. Renault’s EV line is expanding by the day, and the E-Tech moniker is gaining accolades and recognition. So, Renault’s electric future seems more secure than ever. Renault joins the ranks of major, legacy manufacturers which are rapidly electrifying. The automaker proves that by promoting driver experience, affordability, and versatility, electrification is the future of business.
