Hot on the heels of the reveal of BMW’s i3 electric saloon, Mercedes-Benz has now revealed the first ever electric iteration of its long-running C-Class model. Going on sale later this year, the all-electric C-Class joins a growing lineup of EVs offered by Mercedes-Benz, also including models such as the new Mercedes-Benz CLA.
Originally introduced in 1993, the C-Class has historically been one of Mercedes-Benz’s best selling models, and it’s hoping to carry that strength into the electric era with this new model. This new electric C-Class will also become one of the longest range electric cars available when it goes on sale later this year, with a maximum WLTP range of 473 miles (762 kilometres) from a 94kWh battery. This efficiency is gained through high aerodynamic efficiency as seen in its swooping design, along with an on-board heat pump, and a regenerative braking system that can send power back to the battery at a rate of up to 300kW.
The 473 mile range is impressive, but it’s still beaten by its newly revealed direct competitor, the BMW i3 – which can crack up to 559 miles of range between chargers.

On the inside, the electric C-Class is clearly positioned as a premium product, with a wide 39.1-inch infotainment screen stretching right across the cabin. Save for a few crucial buttons further down the dashboard, this appears to be a very touchscreen-led interface, even though some manufacturers are starting to revert back to physical buttons.
Further information on pricing and powertrain options is yet to be detailed, with more information expected very shortly.
Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management at Mercedes‑Benz Group, commented:
“The all-new electric C‑Class is redefining the mid-size segment for electric vehicles. Customers will get exactly what they expect from this new version of the beloved model: the perfect blend of performance, comfort, dynamics, and intelligence. On top of that, it is the most powerful and sportiest C‑Class we’ve ever built, offering pure driving pleasure and outstanding real-world range – all while being the perfect sanctuary for our customer.”
