The Volkswagen ID.3’s successor has arrived, the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. Whilst looking fairly similar externally to the outgoing model, the changes under the skin and on the interior are significant, bringing the ageing ID.3 up to date with the latest and greatest EVs whilst addressing consumer feedback from the original model.
From the outside, Volkswagen has clearly run with the mantra of it it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The side and rear profiles are nearly indistinguishable from the original ID.3, though the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo does see an updated front end to freshen up its design, including new headlights, a new front bumper, and an illuminated front badge.
The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo benefits from an updated electric drive system, bringing higher levels of torque and improved efficiency over the outgoing ID.3. Motors will be available in three power outputs – 167 horsepower, 187 horsepower, and 227 horsepower. Battery wise, buyers will be able to choose from capacities of either 50 kWh, 58 kWh, and 79 kWh. That final long range option will allow the ID.3 Neo to travel up to 630 kilometres (391 miles) between chargers – a slight improvement over the previous ID.3, which depending on specification, could achieve a maximum range of 597 kilometres (371 miles) on a full charge. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.

With the original ID.3 launching over five years ago, there is plenty of customer feedback which has gone into the development of the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo. Many people will be pleased to see that physical buttons are back, both on the steering wheel and for key controls such as climate control in the centre dashboard.
Martin Sander, Member of the Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, commented:
“We have developed the new vehicle generation based on the motto ‘True Volkswagen’ and have consistently placed the benefits for our customers at the centre of our actions. In addition to the long range, models such as the ID.3 Neo impress with a superior, timeless design that provides long-lasting pleasure, high quality for a noticeably first-class driving experience and technical perfection that can always be relied on. This is complemented by particularly intuitive operation, which makes everyday driving easier and more convenient.”
