- McDonald’s Austria, with Mer Austria, now offers over 200 EV charging points at 56 locations, a tenfold increase since 2021.
- Key sites feature fast-charging stations with up to 400 kW power, supported by intelligent load management and 100% green electricity.
- By 2025, all McDonald’s locations will be upgraded, including the creation of “mini charging parks” at new sites on major road networks.
McDonald’s Austria celebrates over 200 charging points at restaurants across the country in collaboration with Mer
Since the partnership began in 2021, the number of charging points has increased more than tenfold. Today, 212 charging points are operational at 56 McDonald’s locations.
The infrastructure includes high-capacity fast-charging stations. Key locations near major road networks feature stations offering up to 400 kW of power. Intelligent load management systems support the site to optimise the public power grid’s use.
All charging points are powered by 100% green electricity
The aim is to provide accessible, user-friendly charging options for all EV drivers, aligning with McDonald’s broader environmental commitments.
The cooperation between McDonald’s and Mer has been extremely fruitful. Similar to Sainsbury’s Smart Charge’s successful rollout in the UK, the partnership allows Mer to use pre-approved sites with help from the landowners.
Mer is equipping new and existing McDonald’s locations with these charging stations. They will have upgraded all remaining locations by 2025. Future plans include creating “mini charging parks” with multiple stations, particularly at new sites on major road networks.
This is the second example in as many days of highly successful charging rollouts in partnerships with major chains. These successes can’t go unnoticed, and the chains themselves are future-proofing their businesses. It’s a win-win, so, which major chain or franchise will be next?
